Azerbaijan State Security Service: 893 human remains found in 32 mass burial sites

In Azerbaijan, 32 mass graves have been discovered in the liberated territories after the Second Karabakh War, stated Deputy Chief of the State Security Service, Lieutenant General Sharafat Hasanov, at the international conference on "Enhancing Cooperation and Advancing Modern in Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons" held in Baku, Olaylar informs.

He noted that as a result of the search and identification operations conducted to date, human remains belonging to 893 individuals have been discovered and exhumed:

"Of those, the identities of 327 individuals have been determined through DNA and forensic medical examination, and the remains of 226 individuals have been handed over to their families and buried."

Currently, 3,683 persons are still considered missing.

He noted that 11,542 biological samples from donors have been collected and systematized in connection with persons who went missing as a result of Armeniachr("39")s military aggression against Azerbaijan.

Hasanov stated that the DNA profiles of the collected biological samples are being extracted and archived by the Genetic Research Center of the Military Medical Main Department of the State Security Service.

The general added that the total number of registered missing persons in Azerbaijan in connection with the First and Second Karabakh Wars is 4,010.

According to him, 4,004 of them went missing during the First Karabakh War, and 6 during the Second Karabakh War:

"Of the missing persons, 3,222 are military personnel and 782 are civilians. Among the civilians, there are 71 children, 288 women, and 319 elderly persons."
