PM: Washington accords underscore importance of ensuring connectivity between mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan

The Joint Declaration signed at the Washington trilateral summit-attended by the leaders of Azerbaijan, the United States, and Armenia-demonstrates that the peace initiative long promoted by Azerbaijan has now gained wide international recognition and formal acceptance, Olaylar informs, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov told a special government meeting dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev's historic visit to Washington, Olaylar informs.

"The Joint Declaration is a comprehensive document. It not only marks the end of a decades-long armed confrontation between two countries but also reflects the outcome of the Azerbaijani people's struggle for historical justice, as well as our state's political and diplomatic strength and international standing," Asadov said.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan, which implemented long-ignored UN resolutions and restored justice through military means at the cost of its martyrs' lives, has now also finalized the conflict politically by initiating a peace agreement with Armenia:

"One of the key points in the Joint Declaration concerns the opening of regional transport and communication lines. After the Patriotic War, President Ilham Aliyev repeatedly and firmly stated that Azerbaijan must be granted unimpeded land access to Nakhchivan. Despite various obstacles, disagreements, and diverging positions, this demand was eventually accepted by Armenia."

Asadov added that the document signed in Washington clearly underscores the importance of ensuring unrestricted and secure connectivity between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

"To this end, a special infrastructure initiative supported by the United States-'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' (TRIPP)-is envisioned. This initiative will not only benefit Azerbaijan but also bring significant changes to the region's economic and geopolitical landscape," the prime minister concluded.
