Azerbaijani ambassador: Baku and Sofia have great potential for cooperation in agriculture, logistics, and construction

Given their advantageous geographical location, economic complementarity, and existing strategic partnership, Bulgaria and Azerbaijan have broad opportunities to expand economic cooperation in key non-energy sectors such as agriculture, industry, transport and logistics, tourism, information and communication technologies, pharmaceuticals, and more, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov said in an interview with the Bulgarian publication Stroitel.

The diplomat noted that agriculture has exceptionally high potential for cooperation, as Azerbaijan has a strong agricultural base, while Bulgaria brings experience in food processing, agricultural machinery, agrotechnologies, and production:

"Both countries can exchange expertise and technologies. Azerbaijan can export fruits, vegetables, cotton, wine, and processed food products to your country, while Bulgaria can supply dairy products, wines, and agricultural machinery," he said.

He also emphasized opportunities for creating joint ventures in the food industry, agrotechnologies, greenhouse farming, as well as for joint exports to third-country markets.

"Furthermore, the favorable geographic position of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria opens a range of opportunities for interaction in transportation, logistics, and communications. With the significant growth of trade between Europe and Asia over the past decade, Azerbaijan has become a transport and logistics hub connecting various corridors at the crossroads of Eurasia. Utilizing maritime logistics and existing port infrastructure in both Bulgaria and Azerbaijan can improve regional connectivity in intercontinental trade. Additionally, cooperation between transit operators and logistics companies of the two countries on various projects related to the Middle Corridor can be mutually beneficial," the ambassador added.

Huseynov identified cooperation in reconstruction projects in Azerbaijanchr("39")s Karabakh region as another potential area of engagement.

"Yes, Bulgarian companies definitely have opportunities to participate in reconstruction and construction projects in Azerbaijan, especially considering the country's ambitious plans for infrastructure development in the liberated territories of the Karabakh region. The country welcomes joint production, foreign technologies, and investment. Specifically, the construction and reconstruction of highways, bridges, tunnels, smart city development and housing construction, residential and commercial buildings, industrial parks and logistics centers, renewable energy infrastructure, tourist infrastructure, and more could be of interest to Bulgarian companies," the diplomat stated.
