Baku to host first Ironman 70.3 triathlon in September

On September 5, Baku will host the Alufar Ironman 70.3 Baku international triathlon for the first time, the Baku City Circuit Operations Company told Olaylar.

The event is organized jointly with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Triathlon Federation.

The competition will bring together 1,500 athletes from 62 countries, who will compete in three stages: 1.9 km swimming in the Caspian Sea, 90.1 km cycling across city routes, and a 21.1 km run along Baku Boulevard, finishing near the Yeddi Gozal (Seven Beauties) fountain.

The top 25 male and female athletes will qualify for the 2027 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in the United States.

On September 4, side events will include Ironkids races for children (500 m for ages 5-8, 1 km for ages 9-13, and 2 km for ages 14-17) and a 5 km Fun Run for participants aged 18 and above.

The Ironman series began in 1978 in Hawaii.
