2028 declared Year of Social Development, 2029 Year of Transport Connectivity in CIS
13:26 EnThe year 2028 has been declared the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life within the CIS, and 2029 as the Year of Transport Connectivity, Olaylar informs citing a decision adopted on October 9 at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
The initiative to declare 2028 the Year of Social Development and Quality of Life belongs to the Ministry of Labor, Social Welfare, and Migration of Kyrgyzstan. Its implementation is aimed at strengthening interaction among Commonwealth states in social support, developing active labor market measures, and improving the well-being and quality of life of citizens. During 2028, events are planned to improve the legal framework in the social and labor spheres, implement pilot projects, share best social support practices, and hold international forums on socio-economic and demographic policy.
The initiative to declare 2029 the Year of Transport Connectivity of the CIS belongs to Turkmenistan, serving as a logical continuation of the objectives outlined in the Concept of Turkmenistanchr("39")s CIS Presidency in 2026 and its action plan. Transport connectivity within the Commonwealth involves infrastructure development, coordination of various transport modes, sector digitalization, and transport safety to promote economic integration and regional trade.
As part of its CIS presidency in 2026, Turkmenistan is focusing on expanding economic cooperation and unlocking the logistics and infrastructure potential of Commonwealth states. Key priorities include establishing sustainable transport corridors - particularly for landlocked states - and broadening multilateral cooperation in the Caspian region, aligning with the global agenda and the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026-2035.
