Azerbaijan to chair CIS for first time, forming trio with Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan
12:19 EnIn 2027, the presidency of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will pass to Uzbekistan, and in 2028 to Azerbaijan, Olaylar informs.
Currently, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan form the CIS chairmanship trio.
Following the restoration of independence, Azerbaijan will lead the CIS for the first time. In previous years, one of the main factors hindering Azerbaijan from assuming this function was the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
Thus, Azerbaijan will hold presidencies within the Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the CIS.
In addition, in 2027, Azerbaijan will assume the presidency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the organizationchr("39")s summit will be held in the country. In 2028, Azerbaijan will also host the summit of the European Political Community (EPC).
