Turkey to Muslim Brotherhood: It is time to stop relations for development it with Egypt.
19 Aprel 2021 19:20 EnFor all signs, Turkey and Egypt - two significant countries of the Mediterranean, began "new game" in the region. It is not about the transformation of Cairo and Ankara from enemies in partners. Most likely, they will remain rivals, but the rivalry will be in another form. The main thing is that the process went, and Turkey and Egypt can begin to make decisions that are important for the entire Islamic world.
In time, the rift between the two presidents has developed from an ideological dispute to a conflict of interests and a contest of diverging visions for the region. Differences beginning with the Syrian crisis extended to the Libyan war and the demarcation of maritime borders in the Mediterranean Sea
Ankara and Cairo went towards each other. This process was born for a long time and is not very noticeable, since most experts paid attention and described the relationship between the two countries through the prism of the gas crisis in Eastern Mediterranean and territorial disputes. At the same time, various anti turkey coalitions with direct or indirect participation of Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, France, Israel, Jordan and even Italy were formed. In this direction, Ankara also was also deprived of support from many other EU countries and the Arab world, including the United States.
But the problem is not only in hydrocarbons. Turkey openly supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and in Libya. Its regional politics, as well as in the neighboring Iran, was oversaturated by the ideological component that after the Arab Spring in 2011 was perceived by a number of countries as a real or potential threat. Now, apparently, the resources of Ankara to implement this policy have been exhausted, and it began to take a sharp turn, trying to restore relations with Egypt after a long age of disagreements. If this step is successful, this may lead to serious changes in the balance of power in the region. Therefore, according to the Turkish expert Hossaine Badji from the Institute of Foreign Policy in Ankara, "Erdogan still decided to abandon the support of the Muslim Brotherhood, recognizing the erroneous previously elected strategy to strengthen the Islamic solidarity. According to Badji, instead of the expected solidarity, Turkey turns out to be in regional isolation. And now, press secretary of the Turkish President Ibrahim Kalin calls Egypt "Heart and Mind of the Arab world" in one of the interviews. In turn, Turkeychr("39")s Foreign Minister Mevlyut Chavushoglu declares that new period begins, in the relations of Ankara with Cair and the highest officials of the two countries intend to negotiate" after a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Schukri.
However, despite the frigidity between the two capitals, their bilateral economic relations have remained strong. Both sides have committed themselves to maintaining their 15 year-old bilateral free trade agreement, with a Turkish business leader claiming in 2019 that the two countries' trade volume reached $5.2 billion. This economic relationship indicates that hope was never lost for reconciliation between the Egypt and Turkey.
Positive signals began to enter Ankara and from Cairo, although Ankara more emphasizes the opportunities of negotiations between countries on the demarcation of their maritime borders in the Eastern Mediterranean. But most importantly, yet the fact that Ankara can begin withdrawing its military advisers and mercenaries from Libya, according to the Turkish edition of Hurriyet, and now she decided to cancel any political meetings of the Muslim Brotherhood Leaders In Turkey, and stopped the charitable activities of the members of this structure on its territory "until the sources of their funds and recommendations of Egypt underlying this decision".
At the same time, Cavushoglu calls on Cairo "Forget about the support of Turkey of the state coup in Egypt, committed by the movement" Muslim Brotherhood in 2013." He ends Erdogan. Speaking in parliament before supporters of the ruling party of justice and development (PSR), he said the following: "We constantly maintain diplomatic, economic and information connections with Egypt and hope for their increase after the relevant negotiations." In turn, the President of Egypt Abdel Fatti As-Sisi instructed the Egyptian media to stop all negative publications about Turkish officials and Turkey.
Ankara ruins through Cairo the so-called anti Turkey block of countries united around the project of the East Mediterranean gas pipeline (Eastmed), represented by Greece, Cyprus, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel. But this is not necessarily accomplishment through a transaction on sea demarcation. In addition, Cairo smashes the Arabic block in which it consisted. It is impossible to exclude that after Egypt, Turkey will go to rapprochement with Israel. The recent moves in the presidential dialogue of France and Turkey, as well as regular Greco-Turkish discussions, give reason to believe that the current balance of forces around the problems of the Eastern Mediterranean began to change. For all signs, Turkey and Egypt - two significant countries began a "New game" in the region, which objectively puts sticks in the wheel of the Alliance of Greece and the Greek administration of southern Cyprus. It is not about the transformation of Egypt and Turkey from enemies to partners. Rather, they will become rivals, but the rivalry will be in another form. The main thing is that the process went.
