Western Azerbaijan Community urges Armenian society to stop interference attempts

Armenian society should stop attempts to interfere in Azerbaijanchr("39")s internal affairs, the Western Azerbaijan Community said in a statement.

According to Olaylar, the Community said what it described as an unfounded campaign in Armenia over the recent visit of foreign diplomats to Azerbaijanchr("39")s liberated territories had not subsided.

The statement said such reactions were damaging the peace and normalization process between the two countries and, in the Communitychr("39")s view, showed that Armenian society still had serious reservations about fully abandoning the notorious "miatsum" policy, accepting Azerbaijanchr("39")s sovereignty and living in peaceful neighborly relations.

The Community also claimed that the Armenian governmentchr("39")s "Real Armenia" concept was effectively experiencing a serious crisis.

It said that approaches based on what it described as fabricated history, fabricated claims of antiquity and national exceptionalism had once again come to the fore in Armenian society in recent days.

The statement said denying the history and culture of the Azerbaijani people, which it described as having a long history and rich cultural heritage, was fundamentally wrong and dangerous.

Referring to remarks made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on September 15 while receiving religious figures from several countries, the Community noted that the Azerbaijani people had contributed such prominent figures and thinkers as Nizami Ganjavi, Khagani Shirvani, Nasimi, Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, Shah Ismail Khatai and Fuzuli to world culture.

The Community argued that such ideologies and approaches had driven Armenia, particularly over the past 30 years, toward the "miatsum" policy and had contributed to the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis from Armenia, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and the deliberate destruction of cultural heritage, including mosques.

It said the consequences of this policy for the Armenian state and people were clear.

"The Western Azerbaijan Community calls on Armenian society not to repeat the mistakes of the past, to stop attempts to interfere in Azerbaijanchr("39")s internal affairs, to fully accept our countrychr("39")s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to refrain from provocative actions that regularly cause justified discontent in Azerbaijan," the statement said.
