Hikmat Hajiyev: 'Azerbaijan remains a reliable and trustful partner of the US'

Azerbaijan is a reliable and trustful partner of the United States in the South Caucasus, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said in an interview with Newsmax, Olaylar informs.

Hajiyev said US President Donald Trumpchr("39")s efforts to establish peace between Baku and Yerevan had changed the strategic landscape of the South Caucasus and opened a new era in Azerbaijan-US relations.

"President Trump and his arrival to this office completely changed United States and Azerbaijanchr("39")s cooperation and partnership. And the most important thing: the peace. And he delivered the peace to the region of the South Caucasus," Hajiyev said.

Hajiyev also highlighted August 8, 2025, as an important date for the South Caucasus. On that day, with President Donald Trumpchr("39")s participation at the White House, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a historic joint declaration aimed at ending more than three decades of conflict.

He stressed that Trumpchr("39")s personal involvement helped achieve a result that international diplomacy had been unable to deliver for decades.

Speaking about Azerbaijan-US relations, Hajiyev said the current US administration had ushered in a "new era" of strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.

"President Trump and President Ilham Aliyev have offered a new era in the United States and Azerbaijan strategic partnership, and they agreed that we will chart a new memorandum on the strategic partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan," Hajiyev said.

He noted that the United States fulfilled its promise when Vice President JD Vance visited Azerbaijan and signed a strategic partnership document.

"United States and Azerbaijan strategic friendship and strategic cooperation and partnership is on a strong foundation," Hajiyev said. "It will continue to grow."

"In this geopolitical strategic area," he added, "Azerbaijan remains a reliable and trustful partner of the United States."
