Azerbaijan says renewables, efficiency strengthen energy security
10:46 EnExpanding the use of renewable energy, improving energy efficiency and upgrading energy management systems help strengthen energy security, Azerbaijanchr("39")s Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev said.
According to Olaylar, citing the Energy Ministry, he made the remarks at a meeting of the Green Energy Space Working Group, established to coordinate implementation of measures under Azerbaijanchr("39")s 2022-2026 Socio-Economic Development Strategy.
Valiyev said these measures also help diversify energy sources, reduce energy costs and losses, and improve economic competitiveness.
He noted that implementation of the Green Energy Space objectives contributes not only to stronger energy security, but also to mitigating the effects of climate change and protecting the environment.
According to Valiyev, reforms in electricity and gas supply, modernization and reinforcement of power grids, the introduction of modern equipment, and the construction of new substations and power lines are improving the quality and reliability of energy supply.
Ramil Huseyn, Deputy Chairman of the Working Group and Deputy Executive Director of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, presented the monitoring and evaluation results for the first half of 2026 on implementation of measures under Goal 5.2, "Green Energy Space," of the 2022-2026 Socio-Economic Development Strategy.
The meeting also reviewed implementation indicators, recommendations and next steps for measures due to be completed in 2026, as well as preparations for the final report.
The Green Energy Space Working Group includes representatives of the Energy Ministry, the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication, several other ministries and state bodies, SOCAR, the Central Bank, Azerbaijan Investment Holding, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the State Water Resources Agency, Azerenerji, Azerishiq and Azeristiliktechizat.
