Climate agenda can unite countries amid geopolitical divisions

The climate agenda has enormous potential to unite countries and regions around the world amid existing geopolitical disagreements, said Nigar Arpadarai, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 and a member of Azerbaijanchr("39")s Milli Majlis, during a roundtable held as part of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW 2026), Olaylar informs.

According to Arpadarai, the modern world is characterized by distrust, conflicts and divisions, but global challenges cannot be addressed by countries acting alone.

She also noted that one of the main challenges remains the gap between the global climate architecture and capabilities at the local level.

"At COP29, we secured financing. A historic decision involving financial commitments was adopted in Baku. But what does this mean for a farmer in a village? How do these funds reach the communities that are truly vulnerable?" she said.

Arpadarai also emphasized the importance of partnerships among governments, cities, the private sector, young people and other non-state actors.
