Azerbaijan establishes itself as confident regional player, GCE-HSG rep says

Azerbaijan has significantly strengthened its position on the political arena in recent years and established itself as a confident regional player with broad economic, geopolitical, and military capabilities, Member of the Academic Board of the Center for Governance and Culture in Europe (GCE-HSG) Ulrich Schmid said at the international conference "Security and Cooperation in the South Caucasus."

Olaylar quotes him as saying the political significance of the entire South Caucasus has grown simultaneously.

Schmid noted that what is happening both inside Azerbaijan and in the region as a whole is of particular interest.

"We are interested in what is happening in Azerbaijan itself and in the South Caucasus, as well as what significance the peace process with Armenia has for regional cooperation," he said.
