EU says it is premature to set timeline for visa-free travel with Armenia

The European Commission considers it premature to set a specific date for introducing visa-free travel for Armenian citizens to the Schengen area, European Commission Chief Spokesperson Paula Pinho said at a briefing in Brussels.

Pinho said negotiations with Armenia are still at the discussion stage on a number of areas.

"It is too early to be so specific," she said in response to a question about the feasibility of introducing visa-free travel for Armenian citizens as early as 2029.

Brussels is discussing various areas for strengthening cooperation with Yerevan. "The EU will be able to move to the next stage of relations once they reach the necessary level of readiness," she stressed.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed hope that visa liberalization with the European Union could begin in 2029.
