Ilham Aliyev points to UN inaction in implementing Security Council resolutions

The United Nations played no role in implementing four UN Security Council resolutions concerning the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the high-level meeting in the SCO Plus format.

The Azerbaijani leader said that Azerbaijan independently restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Four UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 1993 were implemented 30 years later - three years ago. Unfortunately, however, the UN played no role in implementing these resolutions. Azerbaijan independently fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity," the head of state said.

Ilham Aliyev stressed the need to develop appropriate mechanisms to ensure that UN Security Council resolutions are implemented within a short timeframe.

"If this is done, it will enhance the authority of the UN and strengthen the organizationchr("39")s role in conflict resolution," the Azerbaijani president noted.
