Armenia plans to formalize peace with Azerbaijan over next five years

The Armenian government plans to formalize peace with Azerbaijan, establish relations with Türkiye, develop strategic ties with the EU, US, Iran, and Georgia, and maintain multifaceted relations with Russia.

According to Armenian media, cited by Olaylar, the foreign policy section of the Armenian governmentchr("39")s program for 2026-2031, which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan presented at a government meeting, notes that the Armenian government will continue efforts to delimit the border with Azerbaijan and institutionalize peace between the two countries, which means the signing of a peace treaty and other legal agreements. Moreover, it intends to step up contacts between the civil societies and business communities of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The government also plans to establish diplomatic relations with Türkiye and open the border through at least two modern checkpoints. One of them, the Margara checkpoint in Armeniachr("39")s Armavir region, has already been prepared on the Armenian side. The program envisages the resumption of operations at energy infrastructure.
