Hajiyev: Azerbaijan frequently targeted by global disinformation campaigns
10:55 EnInternational disinformation campaigns often target Azerbaijan, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, stated at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, Olaylar informs.
Hajiyev underscored that in recent years, Azerbaijan has undertaken comprehensive modernization of its media environment: "These reforms aim to strengthen professional journalism, build institutional capacity, promote ethical standards, enhance media literacy, and help the media adapt to rapid technological changes. Media reform is about building sustainable institutions, supporting independent journalism, increasing resilience against disinformation, and strengthening public trust."
The official also pointed out that many politicians and experts have observed extensive smear and disinformation campaigns directed against Azerbaijan: "We verify these facts and provide fact-based responses. Proving the truth has become more difficult, as technology giants and some institutions that should play the role of professional journalism sometimes actively participate in spreading disinformation. Governments, media organizations, technology companies, academia, and civil society share joint responsibility for creating an accurate, transparent, and accountable information environment."
He added that trust can be restored through dialogue, professional journalism, and mutual respect.
