Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan may establish joint ventures with Japan in defense industry

Azerbaijan and Japan may conduct exchanges and establish joint ventures in the defense industry sector, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening ceremony of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, entitled "The Mission of the Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust," Olaylar informs.

"The delivery of crude oil from Azerbaijan to Japan is more important than ever before. Because supply routes have been disrupted. Azerbaijanchr("39")s role in this regard is increasing even further. We are in favor of productive cooperation. We have a good history of partnership with Japan. In some cases, it has been dynamic. In any case, we have accumulated experience in cooperation in various fields. Many Japanese companies have operated as contractors in Azerbaijan, particularly working in the industrial sector. I have participated in the presentation of a large power plant built by Japanese companies. Admittedly, there has not been much mutual activity between Azerbaijan and Japan in this field. However, I believe that more cooperation can be established in energy and other areas.

We can work in the defense industry sector. I know that such an industry exists in Japan. We can conduct mutual exchanges, and we can establish joint ventures. In short, we have good experience. In previous years, we have had trade relations. It may be that the projects are few. Over the last 5-6 years, we have not seen diplomatic contacts between our countries either. After the Second Karabakh War, the situation remains at this point. However, the potential still exists. I believe there should be more contacts between government officials and business circles. In that case, we will be able to identify additional advantages of cooperation," he noted.
