Isa Habibbayli: First Turkological Congress laid foundation for integration of Turkic peoples
16:26 EnThe scientific issues and initiatives discussed at the First Turkic Congress laid the foundation for the integration of the Turkic peoples, Isa Habibbayli, president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), said at the plenary session "The Turkic World as One Family: Activities of International Turkic Cooperation Organizations for Common Goals" during the Turkic World Week dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the congress in Baku, Olaylar informs.
According to him, the congress was not only a scientific and cultural event, but also a socio-political one. It was then, the academician noted, that the concept of the Turkic world was formed, and Turkology was presented as an independent scientific discipline.
Habibbayli also stated that the Soviet regime, fearing the integration of the Turkic peoples, limited the development of Turkology, focusing primarily on linguistic research.
He added that today, within the structure of ANAS, divisions engaged in Turkological research have been created and are successfully functioning.
