Naghdaliyev: Azerbaijan to apply new support mechanisms for cotton sector
15:05 EnNew state support mechanisms will be implemented to boost cotton production in Azerbaijan, according to Zeynal Naghdaliyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department for Territorial and Organizational Issues of the Presidential Administration, Olaylar informs.
Speaking at a meeting on cotton development in Sabirabad, held within discussions of the State Program for the Development of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Production and Processing for 2026-2030, Naghdaliyev said subsidies for cotton production will continue, alongside the introduction of insurance mechanisms to mitigate risks linked to global cotton price volatility.
"These mechanisms will ensure stable incomes for farmers and cotton companies, enable more reliable production planning, and minimize financial risks in the sector," he stated.
Naghdaliyev added that plans include establishing new spinning, weaving, and textile enterprises, providing state support for processing equipment, and encouraging domestic supply of cotton yarn. This, he noted, will reduce raw cotton exports, expand value-added production chains within Azerbaijan, and strengthen the competitiveness of local industry.
He reminded that the sectorchr("39")s targets include raising cotton yields to 5 tons per hectare, developing processing industries, expanding finished cotton products, and boosting export potential. Measures to achieve these goals involve wider use of modern irrigation systems, strengthening farm technical capacity, adopting advanced agrotechnologies, and expanding the application of laser land-leveling technology.
