Zahid Oruj: Over 90% of parents in Azerbaijan support regulation of social media for children

The overwhelming majority of parents in Azerbaijan support regulating childrenchr("39")s social media use, Zahid Oruj, chairman of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, said at a joint meeting of the committees on human rights, family, women, and childrenchr("39")s issues, as well as legal policy and state building, Olaylar informs.

He noted that the results of a public opinion poll conducted in December 2025 by the Social Research Center indicate widespread support for initiatives to regulate childrenchr("39")s access to social media.

"According to the survey, conducted among 1,100 respondents, 87.3% of the population supports the proposal to regulate the use of social media by minors under 16. Some 11.1% of respondents disagree with this initiative, and another 1.6% abstained from answering. In other words, proposals to regulate childrenchr("39")s use of social media originate from society itself and represent a social demand," Oruj said.

He emphasized that support for this initiative is even higher among parents of schoolchildren.

"Some 90.5% of parents with school-age children have a positive attitude toward this proposal. A more critical approach is primarily observed among young people and those with higher education," the committee head said.
