Foreign Ministry: Five Azerbaijani citizens killed in drone attack on vessels in the Sea of Azov

Five Azerbaijani citizens were killed and three others were injured as a result of a drone attack on two foreign cargo vessels in the Sea of Azov, spokesperson for Azerbaijanchr("39")s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykhan Hajizada, said in a statement, Olaylar informs.

Earlier, reports emerged of drone strikes carried out during the night of June 5 against the foreign cargo ships Natra and Zirkon in the Taganrog Bay of the Sea of Azov, where Azerbaijani citizens were reportedly among those on board.

Hajizada noted that a total of 25 Azerbaijani citizens were aboard the two vessels. He also stressed that neither of the ships belonged to Azerbaijan.

"According to information received from the Russian side, five Azerbaijani citizens were killed in the attack, while three others were injured. The injured have been hospitalized at the city hospital in Yeysk," Hajizada said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that Azerbaijani state institutions and diplomatic missions are currently coordinating with the relevant authorities of several countries regarding the incident.

"Several employees of our embassy in Russia have been dispatched to the scene. The situation involving our citizens, their return to Azerbaijan, and the provision of necessary consular support are under special supervision," he emphasized.

Hajizada also stated that Azerbaijanchr("39")s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
