Anar Baghirov calls to continue international legal assessment of deportation of Western Azerbaijanis

The systematic documentation and international legal assessment of the facts of the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis must be continued at the international legal level, Anar Baghirov, Chairman of the Bar Association, said at the 1st International Scientific Conference "Return to Western Azerbaijan: A New Stage of the National Idea."

He said that international law clearly recognizes the right of refugees and internally displaced persons to return to their native lands.

Baghirov noted that the liberation of Azerbaijan"s territories demonstrated the possibility of fully restoring justice in the South Caucasus.

"This has also further strengthened the legitimacy of the demand for the return of Western Azerbaijan, based on international law and principles of historical justice. The issue of returning to Western Azerbaijan is no longer limited to preserving historical memory or restoring rights; it has become one of the important national ideas shaping the vision of Azerbaijani society for the future," he said.
