Abbas Abbasov: Cooperation with Sikh Federation to make significant contribution to protection of ethnic minorities in India
10:58 EnIn recent months, the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) and the International Sikh Federation have intensified cooperation on protecting the rights of ethnic minorities, countering transnational repression by the Indian government, and advancing the human rights agenda internationally, BIG Executive Director Abbas Abbasov said at the international conference "Amritsar June 1984: Transnational Repression as an Extension of Genocide" in Baku, Olaylar informs.
According to him, over the past five months, two international conferences have been organized in cooperation with the International Sikh Federation. These conferences addressed issues of transnational repression, discrimination against ethnic minorities in India, as well as the protection of human rights and the role of international organizations in ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities.
Abbasov noted that, as part of their joint efforts, a report was also presented at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
"I firmly believe that our cooperation with the International Sikh Federation will make a significant contribution to the protection of the rights of ethnic minorities and human rights in general," the ISF executive director emphasized.
According to him, participants at the current conference will have the opportunity to discuss the role of international law in countering various forms of transnational repression.
