Affordable municipal housing can become one of the key tools for supporting internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
As Olaylar informs that Anastasiya Ponomareva, head of the Kalush Social Housing Project and board member of the charitable foundation, said this during a panel discussion at WUF13 in Baku.
According to her, the project aims to create a model of affordable municipal housing for internally displaced persons while addressing several challenges at once - housing shortages, lack of resources and the integration of displaced persons into host communities.
"We believe that architecture can save lives. For many people in Ukraine, access to housing is becoming a key factor determining their decision to leave besieged cities," she said.
Ponomareva noted that since March 2022, the project has provided more than 50,000 square meters of housing, mainly through the reconstruction of vacant buildings.
According to her, the initiative has already helped many Ukrainians find a new place to live.
She added that the organization intends to develop a sustainable model of social and affordable housing in Ukraine, relying on cooperation with municipalities and international partners.
