Ilhama Gadimova: Climate change directly affects agricultural sector

The establishment of early warning systems is of particular importance for Azerbaijan amid increasing climate risks and threats to food security, Ilhama Gadimova, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Azerbaijan, said at an event within the framework of WUF13, Olaylar informs.

According to her, the issue of climate-resilient cities and early warning systems is one of the most pressing strategic challenges of today.

"Climate change has already gone beyond being solely an environmental issue and has become a fundamental factor directly affecting global economic development, food security, urbanization policy, water resource management, and the future of the agricultural sector," Gadimova emphasized.

She noted that rising global temperatures, increasing drought periods, declining freshwater reserves, and other extreme hydrometeorological events are creating new risks for Azerbaijan as well.

According to the deputy minister, the agricultural sector remains the most vulnerable to these threats.

Gadimova stressed that early warning systems are not merely tools for informing about threats. "They are a mechanism for risk forecasting, making sound management decisions, protecting natural resources, and ensuring overall productivity," she said.
