Baku trial begins for eight Russians accused of drug trafficking Incident
13:45 EnA trial has begun at the Baku Court on Grave Crimes in the case of eight Russian citizens - Sergey Safronov, Anton Drachev, Dmitry Bezugly, Dmitry Fedorov, Alexander Vayserov, Valery Dulov, Alexey Vasilchenko, and Ilya Bezugly - accused of illegal drug trafficking.
At the hearing presided over by Judge Firdovsi Aliyev, the personal data of the defendants was verified.
The defense petitioned for a change of the preventive measure from arrest to house arrest, but the court rejected the petition.
The next hearing is scheduled for April 10.
The accused were detained in Baku as a result of an operation by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to suppress the transit of drugs from Iran, their trafficking, and cyber fraud. The preventive measure of arrest against the detainees was imposed by the Sabail District Court on July 1, 2025. The defendants have been charged under Articles 234.4.1 and 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
