Haber Global reveals details of Azerbaijani tanker incident off Istanbul coast

Turkish broadcaster Haber Global has released new details about an incident involving tankers flying the flags of Azerbaijan and Türkiye off the coast of Istanbul.

The incident occurred at the Küçükçekmece anchorage area, where the vessels" anchor chains became entangled due to severe storm conditions, prompting the crews to send out distress signals.

Haber Global correspondent Mehmet Altunışık reported that immediately after the emergency alert was received, the rescue tug Romörkör-9 was dispatched to the scene. It was later joined by three additional rescue vessels.

"At this stage, there is no threat to the lives or safety of the tanker crews," the journalist said.

Emergency response units of various services remain on standby as a precaution, authorities added.
