Protective treatments are also being applied to guard against moisture and environmental wear.
The restoration is scheduled for completion by January 2026.
Located in the Mardakan settlement of Bakuchr("39")s Khazar district, Small Mardakan Castle dates back to the 13th century and stands as a significant example of Absheronchr("39")s coastal fortifications.
Beginning in the 12th century, heightened attention was given to defending the Absheron Peninsula due to frequent raids by northern looters arriving by sea. Fortresses built in strategic locations enabled rapid communication at the time of enemy threats across the region.
