Armenian parliament speaker reflects on his meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart in St. Petersburg

Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan stated that normalization talks with Azerbaijan continue, and spoke about his meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Sahiba Gafarova.

According to Report, at todaychr("39")s briefing, Simonyan said he talked briefly to Gafarova in St. Petersburg during participation in the meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

According to him, the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan sat next to each other for several hours at the meeting, and agreed not to publicly disclose the content of their conversation.

The last time Alen Simonyan and Sahiba Gafarova met was in Geneva in May 2024 during the first meeting of the Preparatory Commission for the VI World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Simonyan also stated that he believes Azerbaijan is also interested in the speedy normalization of relations with Armenia, just as the latter is.
