Armenia's strategic pact with US sparks controversy: Ex-security chief warns of impending disaster

Artur Vanetsyan, former head of Armeniachr("39")s National Security Service (NSS) and leader of the Homeland party, has strongly criticized the recently signed strategic partnership agreement between Armenia and the United States.

Vanetsyan called the move hasty and said it fails to consider potential consequences.

"Nikol Pashinyanchr("39")s foreign policy is at the level of adventurous logic, threatening to bring a new disaster to our country," Vanetsyan wrote. He believes that "according to the laws of the genre, Pashinyan will soon announce Armeniachr("39")s withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)."

The agreement, signed by Yerevan and Washington, covers a wide range of areas where the Americans intend to "provide support" to Armenia, including economy (energy and innovation), defense, security, democracy development, and justice.

Commenting on the signing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the US might demand Armenia to impose sanctions against Russia.
