Shahbazov: Tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency - main pillar of collective commitments
11 Oktyabr 2024 14:27 EnThe commitments to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030 are not just a benchmark, but the main pillar of collective commitments to achieve the 1.5-degree goal, Azerbaijanchr("39")s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said at a panel session on the second day of Pre-COP29 in Baku.
He noted that last year, the capacity of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan increased by 373.6 megawatts.
"The creation of chr("39")greenchr("39") energy zones in Karabakh, Eastern Zangazur, and Nakhchivan has become the basis for a nationwide transition to chr("39")net zerochr("39"). By 2030, we plan to implement 7 gigawatts of chr("39")greenchr("39") energy, 70% of which will be exported," he said.
Shahbazov emphasized that Azerbaijan is one of the initiators of three "green" corridor projects, including the Black Sea Energy underwater electric cable project.
"These green energy corridors will make a significant contribution to the chr("39")greenchr("39") energy transition in a wider geography - from Central Asia to Europe," he said.
The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan not only leads the process of accelerating the energy transition in the world but also implements large-scale national and cross-border projects that contribute to increasing the potential of renewable energy sources on a national and regional scale.
