Türkiye won't join sanctions of individual countries against Russia - Cavushoglu

Türkiye doesn't intend to comply with the sanctions imposed by a number of countries against Russia, but will be obliged to join the restrictive measures if they are introduced by the UN, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said in his televised speech in Alanya, Olaylar informs referring to TASS.

"Suppose I join the sanctions against Russia. How will the merchants of Alanya sell their goods to the Russian Federation? If the UN imposes sanctions, I will be obliged to comply with them. But if I begin to comply with the sanctions imposed by this or that [state], whether they are fair or no, and if I give up my principles, then I will stop taking into account the interests of my country," he said.

Türkiye has not officially joined the sanctions of the EU, the US and a number of other Western countries against Russia and is trying to remain neutral, including for the success of its mediation efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.
