US has two weeks to create security zone in northern Syria- Erdogan

The US has two weeks to create a security zone in northern Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"If the US does not fulfill its promises and obligations, then Ankara will act independently to create a security zone," Erdogan added, reports Turkish media.

He also stressed that Syrian refugees, who are in Turkey, will be accommodated in the security zone to be created in northern Syria.

Ankara is not satisfied with the US actions on the creation of a security zone in Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said earlier.

"The US and Turkey have launched ground patrols in northern Syria, but all other US actions are just superficial in nature," Cavusoglu added.

"The Turkish armed forces can enter northern Syria at any time to create a security zone, if the US is inactive in creating a security zone in northern Syria," Cavusoglu added.
