Woman is the symbol of tolerance

"UAE Womenchr("39")s Day" is a special day marked every year on August 28 symbolizing the gratitude to womenchr("39")s active role for the homeland and next

generations. For the first time this day was celebrated with the initiative of the Chairwoman of the General Womenchr("39")s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood of the UAE H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak (May Allah protect her) on August 28, 2015 on the occasion of the anniversary of Womenchr("39")s Union established in 1975.

This year the UAE Womenchr("39")s Day is celebrated under the "Woman is the symbol of tolerance" slogan based on the pace founded by the late leader Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - tolerance and peaceful co-existence pervading kindness and best manners reflected in our religion, also promoted due to the supreme role of women not only in the UAE, but also in the entire world.

Based on the orders by the President of the United Arab Emirates H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, since 2019 elections women to occupy 50 per cent of the countrychr("39")s Federal National Council. At present the Parliament has 8 women members, which comprise 20% of total 40 members. These steps consider the growth of the Emirati womenchr("39")s role in all areas of life, including that of political.

The Emirati women hold leading diplomatic positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well. According to the statistics of 2019, the number of female staff members of the Ministry has reached 234, and the number of the women working at diplomatic missions in foreign countries has reached 42. Also there are seven women ambassadors functioning in foreign countries.

We, in our turn, convey our deep thankfulness to the Emirati women for their contribution to our state in its development in various areas. Particularly, we thank the UAE Government and Leadership for their support to the womenchr("39")s role in the societychr("39")s development.
