Turkey begins development of next-gen unmanned tanks

Turkey began development of next generation unmanned tanks, Turkish media reported on Feb. 23 referring to sources in Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM).

SSM is currently developing 16 projects in defense sphere.

On Feb. 21, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey plans to manufacture next generation unmanned tanks.

Turkey must modernize its defense industry and become a military power, Erdogan added.

From 2011, Turkey has set up the production of mobile outposts that proved useful in fights against the militants of the Kurdistan Workerschr("39") Party (PKK), and also the Canik TP9 handguns, unmanned ANKA aircraft and other military equipment to strengthen the domestic defense industry.
