Azerbaijan launches new ferry in Trans-Caspian Int’l Transport Route

Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping CJSC has completed the repair of a ferry Mercuri-1, the company said in a message Nov. 22.

The vessel successfully passed sea trials, according to the message.

"Main and auxiliary engines, pump and electric motors have been repaired, pipes installed, the vessel's deck and hull painted," said the message. "The cabins have been equipped with new furniture. The ferry has been returned to operation at the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route for the transportation of railcars in the directions of Turkmenbashi, Kuryk and Aktau cities."

The repair was carried out at the Zykh shipbuilding and ship repair plant.

Mercuri-1 with capacity of 28 railcars is 154.5 meters long, 18.3 meters wide, and its maximum speed is 15 knots.
