The Southern Gas Corridor project is a very strong basis for an exclusive political dialogue between the EU and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belgium Fuad Iskenderov said in an interview to Euroactiv.

Azerbaijan is really getting closer and closer to Europe, the diplomat said.

He noted that there is going on a serious work for construction the Southern Gas Corridor, which consists of four elements: the Shah Deniz-2 project, which is about 90 percent is ready, the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline (also 90 percent), the Trans-Anatolian and Trans-Adriatic pipelines (TANAP and TAP).

"We have a very good economic and commercial basis for the development of our political dialogue, not just energy security.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority project for the EU that expected to provide 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region via Georgia and Turkey to Europe.
